Mage / Artillery
Beginner Rule
Don't stand still against Hwei — many of his strongest abilities are skillshots.
Hwei is a versatile artillery mage with tools for poke, crowd control, and burst damage. He wants to keep enemies at range while choosing the right spell combinations for each situation. Many beginners become overwhelmed by his range and underestimate how much damage his full combo can deal.
Level 3 – Access to multiple spell combinations.
Level 6 – Ultimate adds strong teamfight control.
First Item – Poke and burst become threatening.
Long-range poke
Crowd control chains
Teamfight zoning
Fog-of-war skillshots
QWhat it does
Subject Disaster: three damaging abilities — a fire channel (Devastating Fire), a distant lightning bolt (Severing Bolt), and a ground fissure (Molten Fissure).
How to play against
Track which Subject he's in. Disaster abilities are long-range and damaging. Move out of each indicator.
WWhat it does
Subject Serenity: utility abilities — a current (Fleeting Current), a pool (Pool of Reflection that reflects projectiles), and a light attack (Stirring Lights).
How to play against
Pool of Reflection bounces projectiles back — don't fire into it. Stirring Lights give his next 3 attacks bonus effects.
EWhat it does
Subject Torment: three CC abilities — Grim Visage (fear), Gaze of the Abyss (locking gaze), and Crushing Maw (ground and pull).
How to play against
Crushing Maw grounds and pulls — don't dash near him when he's in Torment subject. Grim Visage fear has a windup — dodge it sideways.
RWhat it does
Fires a vision of despair that expands around the first champion hit, slowing and dealing damage before exploding.
How to play against
Move away from your teammates the moment it hits you — the expanding circle damages everyone nearby.
Fear → Burst Combo
Punishes mispositioning.
Poke Rotation → Re-engage
Wears enemies down.
R → Full Combo
Maximizes teamfight impact.

Signature: his subjects chain together. Casting a Subject ability quickly after another grants an empowered bonus effect. He chains subjects for combo effects — interrupting the chain timing reduces his output.
