Tank / Catcher
Beginner Rule
Stay behind minions when Death Sentence (Q) — his hook ability — is available.
Thresh is a playmaking support who excels at picks and crowd control. He wants to land Death Sentence (Q) — his hook ability — before chaining crowd control together. Many beginners focus only on the hook and forget about the threat from Dark Passage (W) lantern plays.
Level 2 – Full engage combo unlocked.
Level 6 – The Box adds strong lockdown.
Mid Game – Excellent pick potential.
Hooks
Lantern plays
Flay interrupts
Flash engages
QWhat it does
Binds an enemy in chains pulling them toward him. Second activation pulls Thresh to the enemy.
How to play against
Dodge the hook — stand behind minions to block it. Without the hook he has no engage.
WWhat it does
Throws a lantern that shields nearby allied champions. Allies can click it to dash to him.
How to play against
His lantern is an escape tool for allies. He may also use it to bring a carry into a fight.
EWhat it does
Passive: autos build up damage over time. Active: sweeps his chain knocking enemies in the direction of the blow.
How to play against
He can push you toward a wall or toward his team depending on direction. Watch the angle of his sweep.
RWhat it does
Creates a prison of walls dealing damage and slowing enemies who break them.
How to play against
Don't try to break out immediately — you take damage and get slowed. Wait for a gap or Flash over a wall.
Q → Q → E
Standard engage combo.
Flash → E → Hook
Surprise pick combo.
Lantern → Ally Engage
Creates unexpected fights.

Damnation: whenever a nearby enemy dies he may collect their soul permanently increasing his Armor and Ability Power. He scales permanently from collecting souls — an old Thresh has significant passive stats.
